The still hour

Sometimes, there is only silence

In the mind and in the cold wind outside.

The distant hum of cars on empty roads,

An unknown calmness settles in this hour,

A kind of liberation to simply be.

Face to face with my feelings,

There is no palpitating rush,

No weight of the day’s threshold.

And it’s okay if I just want to lie still,

Let the hours and minutes slip by

As I soak myself in this stillness.
